The REAL final post! (finally)

Ok, since I've finished the book I'm going to post about the PS part so...
Title: First They Killed My Father
Author:Loung Ung
Pages:249-265
Hours: 1/2
1. The first thing that I read was ABOUT THE AUTHOR: MEET LONUG UNG in the back of the book. The meet the author section pretty much covered what was in the book. However, I did learn some new things about Lonug. I didn't know that she was dyslexic with numbers, or that twenty of her family members were killed when Pot Pol was in power. Another thing that I didn't know was that her memoir was translated into eleven languages. It must be sad to think that everyday for the past twenty eight years she has missed her father and last saw him at age seven. I really grieve for Lonug, but I glad that she was able to publish her story and share it with the rest of the world.

2. I was really touched by the emotion and sadness in the letters to the author by the readers of , First They Killed My Father. I liked how one reader compared Lonug's father with her own father. For many readers it was as though Lonug's story was their story. In almost all the letters, the readers expressed horror at man's cruelty for each other. I am glad that in the end they understood that Lonug survived and had a happy ending.

3. If you write a letter to Loung wat would YOU write?

THE FINAL READING POST!!! YAY!!

1.I finished the book and so and it had kind of a happy ending. She was able to get to America, but she couldn't get all of her family to America. Still I'm getting to far ahead of myself. When Loung, Chou and Kim were sent away I couldn't believe it. The sent her own children away. Loung was only seven years old. Then Loung got sent away to a tougher camp for stronger children and Chou got left behind. When Loung got to the tougher camp they taught her how to kill just like a soldier. Also we found that Geak and Ma were killed by the Khmer Ruogh soldiers. Then the Youn soldier invaded and took Loung away to a camp. Where she found her brother Kim and her sister Chou. They were being shifted to foster family to foster family. One of the Youn soldier tried to rape Loung untill she kicked him the groin. Then there was killing of a Khmer Rough soldier. Finally Loung and her brother and sister met up with their two older brothers.
2. My favorite part was when Loung showed us all of the pictures of her family. I loved reading the little captions she had for her family. My favorite was the picture was Loung and her sister Chou were posing for a picture and they had on their cute little dresses. One made me really sad when a caption said that one picture was the only one of Geak. I knew then that Geak must have died during the war because Loung showed pictures of the living siblings when they were adults so that made me sad.
3. How do you think felt when she Chou first saw Loung after finally went back to Cambodia?

1. This is terrible! I feel so sorry for this family. They are constantly moving from place to place and each one gets worst. The first one had very little food. The second one flooded so much that the water was a foot deep and now Ro Leap. Ro Leap is the worst camp out of all of them. Women are getting raped, Kim is getting beaten, Khouy had to get married in order to not get drafted into the army, and this "chief" made everyone follow stupid rules like: you have to call your father "poh." This book is making So Far From the Bamboo Grove look like a tea party.
2. I feel for poor Loung. She is beginning to understand that she is in a life threatening experience. That is something that a five year old girl should never go through. Sadly it's happening everyday. Loung is seeing her family torn apart, and hearing mother's cry out for their daughters, and also always hearing someone committed suicide. She trying to stay strong, but their is only enough courage that she can keep up for a girl her age. It's miracle that she survived all of this.
3. Why do you think Kim got fired for his job? Also who caused this to happen?

1. I feel so sorry for Loung. Since she is a young child she doesn't understand the danger that she is in. She keeps think that the soldiers are going to let her go home, but we all know they're not. It's a shame that a girl her age is going threw poverty and killings. I hate the fact that Loung is living in a house with 19 people! I can't believe that this is a real story.
2. There are still some things that I don't understand. Why is the government kicking everybodt out their homes? That's one question I really want to know because then I'll what they are running away from. Still I love the father character because he always takes care of his little Loung. I loved it when he gave her a rice ball and also carried all of her things when she got tired. He really cares about her and that's what I really like about him.
3. Why do you think the father was able to tell that the soldiers were evil just by looking at their shoes?
