Final Romek Post

1. The part that I found the most horrifying was when David Faber found the little baby girl in the gas chamber and tried to get her to the woman camp so that the baby could be saved. Then the Nazi officer saw him and threw the poor baby into the oven. After he killed the baby he beat up David. I found that so horrifying. I couldn't understand that a man grown man would kill a poor baby. I feel so sad thinking that the baby never was able to to grow up or take her first steps.

2. At Krawinkel Camp David was in charge of feeding the dogs. The good thing was that we was able to eat the dog food so that helped make him stronger also the job kept him out of the coal mines and other hard jobs.

3.It was terrible. When David got there he had to pick up dead bodies and put them into the oven. And his pay was a tiny bit of cold soup. Soon David starts to get sick and he begins to bleed and get really high fevers. To his lucky he met a doctor in the camp that told him a remedy that stopped him for bleeding, but that was the only good thing. Soon people started to eating the flesh of the dead bodies, yet David could not bring himself to do it.

4. When the troops invaded the camp David finally was free. He was able to fullfill his promise to his mother. So that made him feel a little bit happy. Also the fact that he was really living didn't hurt either. I think he was proud when robbed the german family because he was able to hurt a germans a little bit.

5. I think that because of Romek is a must read for middle school and high schools. This book shows you the horrors of the Holocaust in a completly different ways. When Mr. David Faber came to my school he said that many people try to deny that millions of Jews were killed. But thanks to him he's is able to tell the truth. When David Faber talked to my school I felt that I was really there during the Holocuast. He even decribes it even better in the book. I feel that this book should be required to read, but I also think that they can have the choice to not read a certain part.

Numbering the Stars

Numbering the Stars is about a girl named Annemarie and her family trying to save her best freind Ellen and her family from the Nazis since they are jewish. They did everything they could. They pretended that Ellen was Annemarie's sister so theat the Nazis wouldn't supect her. Then they found out the the Nazis wouldn't invade Sweden. So an antiNazi underground were smuguling jews into Sweden. Almost all of Annemarie's family was part of the undergroud. Especialy her older sister and her fiance. Unfortnly they were killed. Still they were able to smugul Ellen and her family to Sweden because Annemarie was able to get the special cloth to her uncle.
I really liked this book. It was sad, but it was a happy ending in the end. They were able to get Elen and her family to Sweden. Still it was sad that Annemarie's sister died and Peter her fiance was murdered. He even asked if coule get buried next to Annemarie's sister, but he didn't so that was sad. Also it was sacry when the Nazis caught Annemarie running to get the cloth to her uncle. Still everything turned out alright.

Reflection

Project Reflection: Post on your Blog
Project Title: Renaissance Ball
Class: CD Dates: Wednesday June, 4 2008
*You may type directly in this document and copy and paste into blog, or simply address each of the following in a post. It should be approx. 2 pages worth of writingJ.
PURPOSE: In this section, explain what you were supposed to learn and what you were supposed to do.
The purpose of this project was to become an expert on the person that we were researching on as well as the different types of cultures during that time. Like the different styles of dances and fashions and clothes. Also we had to write a biography about our person as well. At the end of the project we had a renaissance ball. That's when we had to put our research to good use. We had to actually become that person. At the ball we would have to talk as if was that person. We had to talk to other people at the ball and ask them questions about their person and then tell them a little about ourselves.
WHAT I LEARNED
In this section, tell what information or skills you learned or improved.
In this project I learned a lot about my person. My person was Joan of Arc. I learned so much about her. I didn't know that her hometown of Domremy, France was invaded by the British. I also didn't know that she captured by the Burgundian troops was sold to the Duke of Burgandy for ten thousand francs. In this project I learned how to write a paper in diary form and write it from a first person point of view.

REFLECTION
In this section, reflect on your experience. Did you like the project? Why or why not? How did you do? What would you do differently next time?
What I would do next is time I try to put my eleven page biography and try to pack it into five pages. Still I did like this project. I loved writing the diary. I felt as though I could use my creativity and writing skills. I also loved that I could feel like Joan of Arc.

Romek #3

1. My heart sat in my stomach for the rest of the day. It was very sad, yet I was happy that he was alive and was able to tell his story to the world also that he is still has enough fight in him to go schools and tell kids what he through. I feel lucky and honored that I am one person in the few thousand that he has spoken to. Still that is very few in the total population of the U.S. I glad that was able to talk to him before he is no longer alive.

2. I think Romek was proud of his younger brother because David was also making the Nazi's life miserable because he was tipping the trains and then the Nazi's couldn't use it. Maybe Romek felt that David was growing up to be just like him. Romek was making Nazi's life harder and so was David. since the were the only sons of the family they always had a special bond.

3. Well, it was because David didn't know about the bluefile. Still they threw him down the stairs and can kill you as well. I guess when they saw him so bloodied up that he probably wouldn't live much longer or that Nazi's would soon get him so they might as well let him suffer much longer so then he could really wish he was dead.

Romek #2

1. I think that the pigeon was kind of like a piece of beauty to David. Also he might have felt like a little boy again since the pigeon was like a pet to him. Also he loved to feed him as well. And I think David might have thought that the pigeon were angels because they told his mother that something was wrong.

2. I think it was horrible they made him work long hours and he barely had anything to eat. I also think that it was called a vacation camp because I think the Nazis knew that the concenctration camp would be a lot worse. Either way this camp that David was sent to was horriable so I'm gald that he got away.

3. I think I might ask him: " I you knew that the holocast was coming what would you do? And : Do you ever know what might have happened to any of the people in your past?

Romek Post #1

1. I really didn't know that they made the jewish men dig ditches so that the Nazis could kill then and then they would die in the pit. I know that seeing that was ten times worse than jut reading it. It is amazing what we do to our fellow man. This stuff makes First They Killed My Father look like a picnic.

2.They love each other very much and they love their jewish culture as well. They will also die for each other too. David risked his life to save his father. They try to work together so that they can survive. They kind of like our family if we were ever in a type of war like that.

2(b) Maybe it's because it still huants him till this day. I would forget all the pain torture that I went through just to live another day,

3.It shows that he loves his family and will do whatever it takes to keep them safe and alive. His father told him that he is now a man and so I think David knows that he has to grow up and become a man so the he can save his family.

Aztec Mural Project Reflection

Name: Vivian Phillips
Project Reflection: Post on your Blog

Project Title: Aztec Murals
Class:Interlandi Dates:5-5-08
*You may type directly in this document and copy and paste into blog, or simply address each of the following in a post. It should be approx. 2 pages worth of writing.
PURPOSE: In this section, explain what you were supposed to learn and what you were supposed to do.

The purpose of this project to see if we could tie our murals to Aztec history. In order to learn about Aztec history we had to make a mural with Aztec symbols , gods, and stuff about the Aztec culture. We painted gods, important places, and monuments. We also had to learn what reaction and moods will our mural trigger. So we had to choose certain types of paints and paint in different types of shades.
WHAT I LEARNED
In this section, tell what information or skills you learned or improved.

I learned a lot about art in this project. In this project I learned how to mix paints to make different types of shades and colors. Also I learned which colors can trigger certain moods. I had to learn how to cooperate and how to give and take when it comes to my ideas. I learned what pictures and color were more pleasurable to the eye and which weren't pleasurable. I also learned about the gods and how they loved and feared. I also learned about how different our culture was to the Aztecs. For example: when the a man gets married his teacher is given an ax to show that he has broken away from childhood and is now a man and doesn't need his teacher any more.

REFLECTION
In this section, reflect on your experience. Did you like the project? Why or why not? How did you do? What would you do differently next time?

I enjoyed this project a lot because we got to paint(who doesn't love to paint), we were able to make our own choices when it came to deciding what went on the mural, and we got to trace, draw, and use our imaginations. I feel I could have done better on the cooperation part because sometimes I would do something to the mural without the groups consent. Also I would sometime argue with the empress about what we should put on the mural. Next time I would be able to give and take so I can get along better, but archive that goal I must learn to be more friendly and not get so stress when I comes to my grade. If I feel myself getting frustrated then I should take deep breaths and count to thirty. I hope this will help me archive my goal.

ARTIFACTS
You should have at least one artifact from each project on your DP. What document, picture, or link will you have for this project?

The artifact is our mural. We had to paint it and tie it to Aztec history. We used pictures of the gods so that we could trace is on the mural and this is the link that we used:http://www.azteccalendar.com/god/ on Ms. Interlandi's project page on her blog

The REAL final post! (finally)

Ok, since I've finished the book I'm going to post about the PS part so...
Title: First They Killed My Father
Author:Loung Ung
Pages:249-265
Hours: 1/2
1. The first thing that I read was ABOUT THE AUTHOR: MEET LONUG UNG in the back of the book. The meet the author section pretty much covered what was in the book. However, I did learn some new things about Lonug. I didn't know that she was dyslexic with numbers, or that twenty of her family members were killed when Pot Pol was in power. Another thing that I didn't know was that her memoir was translated into eleven languages. It must be sad to think that everyday for the past twenty eight years she has missed her father and last saw him at age seven. I really grieve for Lonug, but I glad that she was able to publish her story and share it with the rest of the world.

2. I was really touched by the emotion and sadness in the letters to the author by the readers of , First They Killed My Father. I liked how one reader compared Lonug's father with her own father. For many readers it was as though Lonug's story was their story. In almost all the letters, the readers expressed horror at man's cruelty for each other. I am glad that in the end they understood that Lonug survived and had a happy ending.

3. If you write a letter to Loung wat would YOU write?

THE FINAL READING POST!!! YAY!!

Title: First They Killed My Father
Author:Loung Ung
Pages:97-249
Hours:3
1.I finished the book and so and it had kind of a happy ending. She was able to get to America, but she couldn't get all of her family to America. Still I'm getting to far ahead of myself. When Loung, Chou and Kim were sent away I couldn't believe it. The sent her own children away. Loung was only seven years old. Then Loung got sent away to a tougher camp for stronger children and Chou got left behind. When Loung got to the tougher camp they taught her how to kill just like a soldier. Also we found that Geak and Ma were killed by the Khmer Ruogh soldiers. Then the Youn soldier invaded and took Loung away to a camp. Where she found her brother Kim and her sister Chou. They were being shifted to foster family to foster family. One of the Youn soldier tried to rape Loung untill she kicked him the groin. Then there was killing of a Khmer Rough soldier. Finally Loung and her brother and sister met up with their two older brothers.
2. My favorite part was when Loung showed us all of the pictures of her family. I loved reading the little captions she had for her family. My favorite was the picture was Loung and her sister Chou were posing for a picture and they had on their cute little dresses. One made me really sad when a caption said that one picture was the only one of Geak. I knew then that Geak must have died during the war because Loung showed pictures of the living siblings when they were adults so that made me sad.
3. How do you think felt when she Chou first saw Loung after finally went back to Cambodia?

Title: First They Killed my Father
Author: Loung Ung
Pages:57-77
Hours:1
1. This is terrible! I feel so sorry for this family. They are constantly moving from place to place and each one gets worst. The first one had very little food. The second one flooded so much that the water was a foot deep and now Ro Leap. Ro Leap is the worst camp out of all of them. Women are getting raped, Kim is getting beaten, Khouy had to get married in order to not get drafted into the army, and this "chief" made everyone follow stupid rules like: you have to call your father "poh." This book is making So Far From the Bamboo Grove look like a tea party.
2. I feel for poor Loung. She is beginning to understand that she is in a life threatening experience. That is something that a five year old girl should never go through. Sadly it's happening everyday. Loung is seeing her family torn apart, and hearing mother's cry out for their daughters, and also always hearing someone committed suicide. She trying to stay strong, but their is only enough courage that she can keep up for a girl her age. It's miracle that she survived all of this.
3. Why do you think Kim got fired for his job? Also who caused this to happen?

1. I feel so sorry for Loung. Since she is a young child she doesn't understand the danger that she is in. She keeps think that the soldiers are going to let her go home, but we all know they're not. It's a shame that a girl her age is going threw poverty and killings. I hate the fact that Loung is living in a house with 19 people! I can't believe that this is a real story.
2. There are still some things that I don't understand. Why is the government kicking everybodt out their homes? That's one question I really want to know because then I'll what they are running away from. Still I love the father character because he always takes care of his little Loung. I loved it when he gave her a rice ball and also carried all of her things when she got tired. He really cares about her and that's what I really like about him.
3. Why do you think the father was able to tell that the soldiers were evil just by looking at their shoes?
